Is that a combined review?????

We’re Back and helping you on your scotch journey.  This is the first review of a whisky performed at the bar in 3 months. These are unique times and S4D has responded by separation from the bar, modification of review timing and handling of LIVES remotely.  We have learned a lot.

Things we liked:

1. ZOOM calls with Patreons for Thursday Pre-show and Post-show are much better than Discord calls.  We all enjoy seeing each other. Global discussions from Europe, US, Australia, and Asia all on the same call.

2. Expanded content with Blind Reviews. It forces you to dig deep when the reviews are blind.

3. LIVE at different times of the day and different days, to see new people online.

Things we didn’t like:

1. Separation from the bar.  We started this group at the bar, we interact better at the bar, we enjoy the Rick and Morty after party.

2. Cancellation of Busload of Dummies in Scotland. SMDH…too much to unpack here.

Based on these learning, we will continue to do the things we liked and stop doing the things we don’t like.  We will continue with the Zoom calls, we paid for the ZOOM subscription so we aren’t limited to what the free one offers.  Patreons can get the codes on Discord.  The expanded content won’t be as often as during COVID lockdown, but we do have some blind reviews coming up.  We will have some LIVES scattered around too, with respect for those whisky channels that have regularly scheduled content.

Let us know what you liked and disliked about the COVID content so we can improve the channel even more.

It has been a Minute!!

Scotch4Dummies was founded on a group of guys that met in a basement, started learning scotch and decided to share it.  The last several months, due to Covid-19, we have been doing our best to social distance and respect that others are doing the same.  Since the 4 of us actually live closely, we see each other on a regular basis, but we have been respecting distance guidelines.

At this point, our state has been successful at reducing the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths, while significantly increasing testing.  This has started our process into relaxing some of the measures.  This week, all of us have made the call to return to the bar, in the basement, and share some scotch.

I have greatly missed this part of S4D. Zoom is good, but there is nothing like sitting together and speaking and listening.  If we are lucky, we may even be able to produce a regular review video (I am recommending an Ardbeg).

We will continue to monitor Covid-19 and make the call each week if things change.  Please join us at the bar and maybe Dr. Scotch will join us too.

Dummies check out some Texas Whisky and Prep for Final Blind

On Monday, May 25, S4D broadend out portfolio into Texas Whisky.  Admittedly, we stuck with Texas Single Malts, since that will be closer to our standard Scotch profile.  Zach Andrews was kind enough to send us a bottle of the French Oak finish and the Peated Single malt from Balcones Distillery in Waco, Texas.  We even did a unique double review on the LIVE show.

I think it is safe to say we enjoyed the French Oak finish much more than the Peated.  Watch the review and comment to let us know what you think.

NOW! The final Battle is ready.  Mark Vs. Andrew: The final round of the Stump the Dummies Challenge.  The First round with Mark and Drew, saw Mark victorious in a Sunday Evening Scotch Showdown. In the second round, Andrew squeaked out a win against Shawn with Everwind stumping both with “Peachwood?”

Next, George Kaplan sent two sets of samples to complete the challenge. “Start your Wining” put Shawn and Drew head to head in the consolation round. Different wine finishes forced the guys to struggle with color deceiving white wine with soft flavored red wines.  Drew Pulled the win in a landslide by picking one of the bottles early in the challenge and giving him an advantage through the rest of the questions.

“Who set the kitchen on fire?” will be the sample set for Andrew and Mark.  Some suggestion of Andrew’s wheelhouse puts him in the hot seat to see if he is really the connoisseur of the Peat.  Mark’s considerable Bunker of Scotch gives him a full library to train his palate.  Who will know the smoke?  Check out Thursday, May 28, 2020, YouTube 10 pm. Eastern Time.
